Matthew Varona is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, in the Human Interaction Visualization (HIVE) Lab and the Dynamic Graphics Project, supervised by Carolina Nobre. His research examines the role of data and visualizations in how people make sense of the world – treating data as a social artifact shaped by human contexts – with interests in visualization literacy, public data communication, and social media analysis from a critical computing perspective. He holds an undergraduate degree from NYU Abu Dhabi.
