The Toronto Climate Observatory is a growing network of researchers, students, practitioners, and community partners. We welcome collaboration across sectors and disciplines, and the easiest way to start is to write to us.
How to get involved
Community organizations and advocacy groups
We collaborate with community and advocacy groups as co-researchers and knowledge partners: to understand place-based climate impacts, gather lived-experience data, and co-design solutions on housing, energy, mobility, heat, flooding, and health. If your organization is working on any of these, tell us what you’re seeing and what information would help.
Municipal governments and public agencies
We work with municipal and agency teams to identify climate data gaps and to improve how local climate information informs planning, communication, and resilience strategies. We can also support public engagement and equitable service design. Reach out if you have a planning question that existing data can’t answer.
Researchers
TCO is grounded in interdisciplinary, community-engaged scholarship. We welcome faculty, postdocs, and graduate researchers in climate science, science and technology studies, Indigenous studies, design, planning, data justice, and related fields, whether to join a project, co-author, or co-supervise students. Faculty at the University of Toronto can also become faculty partners.
Data practitioners and climate modellers
We build open tools and platforms that make local climate data more accessible and usable. Developers, data scientists, designers, and modellers can help us design platforms, create data visualizations, and bridge the gap between complex models and local decision-making.
Students
Undergraduates from any program can apply to the Toronto Climate Summer School, a six-week, full-credit course offered each May and June. Graduate students interested in working with TCO faculty should contact the relevant faculty member directly. We also support student-led research and participatory projects; write to us with a proposal.
