Ontario Climate Risk Workshop Report Launched
Last week we launched the Ontario Climate Risk Workshop Report, a collection of briefing notes that describe current research and initiatives related to climate risk in Southern Ontario. With contributions from nearly two dozen experts, the report serves as the proceedings from the first Ontario Climate Risk Workshop.
Co-chaired by TCO’s Robert Soden and Rodrigo Costa, the workshop convened over 100 researchers, policymakers, community organizations, and private-sector practitioners to address a critical gap: despite significant expertise and numerous efforts to address climate risk, Ontario still lacks a resource hub and community of practice for sharing knowledge and supporting collaboration. Over two days, participants worked across sectors and sessions to identify the province’s most pressing climate risks, along with the research, policy, and community priorities needed to respond.
The report distills key risks and vulnerabilities raised across sessions, priority research areas for Ontario, and recommendations for improving climate-risk coordination and resilience planning in the following areas: agriculture and food systems, community, mobility, flooding, extreme heat, housing, insurance, and emergency management and recovery.
